It doesn’t get much better than this. The PGA Tour 2020 season officially kicks off this week with the Sentry TOC from the Plantation course at Kapalua. That means plenty of island vibes, images of bright blue waves crashing down on sandy shores and, of course, plenty of primetime golf for the viewers on the mainland.
Team TaylorMade is well-represented at the annual event that features winners from the 2018-2019 season. Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Matthew Wolff and Collin Morikawa are all competing, and they entered paradise armed with new equipment in their bags.
All four superstars have already put the all-new SIM driver in play. Rahm, the reigning Race to Dubai winner, Wolff and Morikawa are all going with SIM driver, while DJ has opted to use SIM Max this week in Hawaii. All four players have also added new SIM fairways into their arsenal.
While we can’t divulge more info on this new product just yet, expect to hear all the great details soon.
We’ve also got legit Hawaiian shaved ice headcovers on the bags of some of the pros this week. Check back to our social channels in the near future to see when they’ll be available for you to pick up.
Rickie Fowler showed he was in control of his TP5x golf ball in round one, posting six birdies en route to a 68 (-5). He was T-3 as of press time.
For the first time in his career, Dustin Johnson is putting a rescue club in play. Yes, you read that right.
DJ wielded a 22-degree SIM Max rescue around Kapalua during the first round. DJ was carrying the club an average of 255 to 260 yards during offseason testing and liked the fact that it was hard to miss left with the club. DJ’s also deploying an interesting wedge gapping with Milled Grind 2 Wedge and MG Hi Toe (more on that below).
Wolff took his prodigious length and accuracy and put them to good use out on Kapalua’s generous fairways during the first round. The 20-year-old led the field in Strokes Gained-Off the Tee (+2.20) and averaged 301 yards off the tee in round one using SIM driver.
Here’s what in the bags for the five Team TaylorMade athletes in the field this week:
