The second men’s major championship of the year gets underway Thursday at a familiar venue on the plains of Oklahoma.
With one major victory already in tow in 2022, the TaylorMade roster has no shortage of contenders this week at Southern Hills. World number one Scottie Scheffler headlines a group that includes Tiger Woods, who returns to the site of his 2007 triumph in this very championship. Here are the key numbers to know before round one starts on Thursday.
Tiger in Tulsa
In 2007, Woods did virtually everything well on his way to victory. A missed fairway at Southern Hills that year cost players - on average - about half-a-stroke per hole. Woods hit 66.1% of his fairways for the week, tied for ninth-best in the field. Woods was tied for fourth in greens in regulation, hitting 69.4%. The field averaged just 55.3% for the tournament.
Southern Hills yielded a scrambling percentage of just 46.0% that week, the 2nd-smallest number on the PGA TOUR in 2007. Tiger got up-and-down at a clip of 59.1%, ranked 12th in the field. Woods ranked 7th in putts per G.I.R. for the week (1.74) and had only one 3-putt for the entire championship.
