For the first time in more than 30 years, the U.S. Open returns to The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, a treasured, historic spot on the American golf landscape.
The characteristics that separate the United States Open from other championships will be prominently featured this week in New England. Deep rough and fast greens will challenge the world’s best players as they vie for one of the most significant trophies in the sport. Team TaylorMade will send another deep roster of championship contenders, headlined by the world’s number one player.
Here's what you need to know about Team TaylorMade as the U.S. Open begins in earnest on Thursday.
Reigning Masters champion and world number one Scottie Scheffler returns to The Country Club, nine years after advancing to the quarterfinals here at the U.S. Amateur. Scheffler’s success in the major championships goes well beyond his victory earlier this year in Georgia: since the beginning of 2020, Scheffler is a combined 30-under-par in the majors, the best cumulative score of any player in that span by nine strokes. Since 2019, Scheffler has averaged 4.03 birdies-or-better per round in the majors, the best average of any player with 20 or more rounds during that stretch.
Scheffler, the 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur champion, will try to become the fourth player to win the Junior Amateur and the U.S. Open.
