Golf is more than a game. Once again, proof of this principal was on full display as the Stanford Women’s Golf team wore pink “Play For Her” polos in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month during the Stanford Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by Condoleeza Rice.
“Every shot hit during the tournament was in support of ‘Her,’” said Anne Walker, Stanford’s Director of Women’s Golf. “That's any woman who's currently in a battle with breast cancer. Any woman who's survived, or maybe anyone who has a friend, a mother or a daughter who’s fought the disease. When we take a moment to look around, we see that this is disease that has impacted us all in some way.”
It’s a cause that’s all too familiar for Missy Farre-Kay, the Women’s Golf Coach at Arizona State University, who’s team was one of 19 competing in the event at Stanford University Golf Course in Palo Alto, California.
“Being a two-time breast cancer survivor, it has absolutely impacted my life and how I do things,” said Farre-Kay. “I have a different lens on how I view life, how I parent…how I coach. I am so grateful to get to do what I do. To be a coach and to lead young women, it's pretty amazing.”
TaylorMade Golf has long supported the Stanford University golf programs and showed up in big way at the 2022 Intercollegiate. From custom headcovers and Stealth driver fittings for every player in the field, the goal was to provide a premium tour-level experience for every player.
“TaylorMade put their arms around this event and really embraced the cause,” added Walker. “It truly meant a lot to me and to every player in the field. It shows the fabric of the company, that they care, and that their social initiatives are rooted action.”
Good things happen to good people. The Stanford team bested the field by 10 strokes and continues a strong season as the No. 1 ranked team country.
