If you’re reading this article, chances are you’ve experienced the five layers of Tour-level performance that TP5 and TP5x golf balls bring to the table. TP5 is the softest five-layer ball on Tour, and TP5x is the fastest five-layer Tour ball, now a ½-club longer*. We’ve taken what we already know works with these golf balls and made them even better!
Introducing all-new TP5 and TP5x Stripe. These balls feature our cutting-edge 360° ClearPath Alignment™ which is a digital band that wraps around the center of the ball with a thin black line to match the sight line on your putter. With TP5 and TP5x Stripe you’ll be able to line up your putts more accurately, consistently, and quickly.
The design of Stripe also gives you immediate feedback on the quality of your roll. On a well-struck putt, the Stripe will roll end over end. If you mishit your putt and put sidespin on it, the Stripe will wobble.
But it’s not just on the green that 360° ClearPath Alignment gives you feedback, you’re able to vividly see the spin on short wedge shots as well. Whether you’re trying to hit a low spinner that skips to a back pin, or a soft lob over a bunker, you receive immediate feedback on how the ball comes off the clubface.
ClearPath Alignment also makes it easy to aim your tee shots straight down the middle of the fairway.
“The reason golfers have fallen in love with the 360° ClearPath Alignment Stripe is because it really allows them to lock in on their target from behind the ball. The immediate feedback about how the golf ball rolls is pivotal as well.”Michael Fox, Senior Director of Product Creation, Golf Ball
TP5 and TP5x have already proven popular on professional Tours. Tommy Fleetwood, who already plays with TaylorMade Visual Technology in his TP5x pix™ ball, is testing TP5x Stripe. Keita Nakajima is continuing to test the TP5 Stripe ball as well.
TP5 AND TP5X TESTING AND DEVELOPMENT
We didn’t develop the TP5 and TP5x golf balls overnight. In fact, it took us 42 months. Throughout the process, TaylorMade engineers asked a simple question: how can we simulate golf ball performance in a way that matches what golfers experience on the course? The testing process included:
- 326 hours of robotic testing
- 19,477 player test shots
- 18,876 robotic test shots
- 30,312 Aerodynamic Research Lab shots
- 555 prototypes
- 67,000 total golf ball measurements
- 30 dimple iterations
- 106 materials
In developing 360° ClearPath Alignment, we spent countless hours having real golfers, just like you, aim putts using both a single line, and 360° ClearPath Alignment. We saw that using 360° ClearPath Alignment helped golfers line up their putts with more accuracy.
PROVEN TAYLORMADE TECHNOLOGIES
Both TP5 and TP5x are packed with proven TaylorMade Technologies. To start, the Speed Wrapped Core is made of materials that produce a soft sound and feel while also amplifying ball speed. The Speed Wrapped Core is the genesis of being able to both enhance feel and maximize distance without sacrificing one or the other.
Moving away from the core, speed gradient construction incorporates a progressive five-layer design that optimizes variable stiffness between the core and mantle layers. For the golfer, that translates to speed and less spin with the driver, fairway woods and long irons, and spin and control in the short irons and wedges.
“Our learning from countless player and Tour tests showed that golfers, unsurprisingly, favor a softer, more muted sound with added distance. Historically, the challenge has been the inability to improve one without negatively impacting the other. With this understanding, we’ve evolved our golf ball design by uniquely decoupling feel and speed through material advancement, a complete departure from the conventional. The material-level advancement positions our TP5 and TP5x golf balls as having the best feel in the industry with fast constructions.”Michael Fox, Senior Director of Product Creation, Golf Ball
The all-new TP5 and TP5x not only give you the tee-to-green performance benefits of the most complete five-layer Tour-level ball, they take the guesswork out of the alignment equation in a way that’s visually appealing, but not overly loud or distracting.
* 1/2 club longer claim based on robot iron testing at Tour launch conditions showing 2024 TP5x 5 yards longer than 2021 TP5x.
