The final PGA TOUR event of 2024 has arrived in HOTlanta! We spent three practice days with Scottie, Rory, Collin & Tommy to bring you the latest scoop from the TOUR Championship.
First, as a reminder, at the TOUR Championship each player begins with "Starting Strokes" based off their position in the FedEx Cup standings entering the final week. Here's out it shakes out for Team TaylorMade:
- Scottie Scheffler: -10
- Rory McIlroy: -4
- Collin Morikawa: -4
- Tommy Fleetwood: -1
Another element to this week's TOUR Championship is a golf course that will play very differently than it did 12 months ago. East Lake underwent a noticeable restoration since last years' playing and competitors this week will be amongst the first to play its new layout.
In walking with Team TaylorMade this week, the biggest takeaway has been simple: hitting fairways is essential. The combination of thick bermuda rough and firm conditions makes it very challenging to hold greens on approach shots. Additionally, bunkers are cut into the landing areas instead of on the edges of fairways. The aforementioned firm greens feature undulating slopes and closely-mown runoff areas that didn't exist a year ago.
During practice rounds, our athletes took extra shots from different locations in the fairway, the rough and fairway bunkers to perfect how the ball will land and hold on the greens.
The good news for Team TaylorMade is that each of our athletes in the TOUR Championship are Top-5 in crucial driving statistical categories.

RORY'S CUSTOM SPIDER TOUR X
Prior to our arrival at East Lake, our team in the putter lab at Carlsbad HQ cooked up something special for Rory McIlroy.
At the same exact spec of Rory's gamer, the team created a torched finish on Rory's Spider Tour X and he liked the look of the finish. Rory put it through the paces on the practice green and it is going straight in the bag. Check it out below and head to our MySpider program to make your own custom Spider!

TOMMY TESTS HI-TOE 4 56°
After last week’s tournament at Castle Pines, Tommy relayed back to our Tour Reps that he felt like there were various situations that he could have benefitted from a 56° wedge in the bag. It's been over five years since he has played a 56° wedge, normally going PW-52°-60°. On Monday, Tommy tested a Hi-Toe 4 56° on the short game area and hit every shot imaginable with it. If you don’t believe me…just watch.
On Tuesday, Tommy took the 56° wedge onto the driving range and the golf course for further testing. Putting a wedge in would mean taking a club out at top of the bag and the most likely candidate would be his Qi10 24.0° 9-wood. Given the 9-wood is one of his favorite clubs and that East Lake is playing longer after the recent renovations, it remains to be seen which direction he will go. Having both options will give him an advantage as he continues to learn the new golf course layout. Tommy plays the chrome finish, which you can create through our MyHi-Toe 4 program.
